Cream Cracker Under the Settee is a soliloquy about a seventy five year middle-aged woman named Doris in which we have more of an insight into her sure thoughts and feelings. The monologue was was written in 1977 and first performed in 1978 and explores many different themes and ideas which are seen through the eyes of Doris. Doris loves niftying, she links everything to evenhandedlyliness. only she whoremongert maintain her cleanliness because of her failing health. Instead, a new-fashioned named Zulema from the social services comes to her house every week to clean for her. Zulema always tries to persuade Doris to move to Stafford house which is an old lie ins home, but Doris despises the thought of Stafford house, I dont regard to be stuck with a lot of old lasses, this is tragicomical as she is an aged old aged lady herself, justificative like the people in Stafford house. She doesnt consider herself as one of those old lasses. Its as if throughout the try sh e is making gradual steps in deciding to die. She take back not having children because her husband has died and now she feels isolated and lonely, as she doesnt know many people anymore. She is scared of going into Stafford House.
